ABC NEWS ANCHOR WANTS HER CHILDREN’S BOOKS TO HELP PARENTS

Parenting is truly a difficult but rewarding journey and ABC News anchor Linsey Davis wants to help parents navigate the course. With her children’s books such as, “How High is Heaven” and “One Big Heart” she is hoping to make sure that parents have significant ammo in their toolboxes to tackle important life issues.

The Emmy-award winning anchor’s writing journey began when she couldn’t find books to read to her son featuring Black and Brown characters.

“It was always the cluster in February in the center of the table for Black History Month. Other than that, the pickings were really slim,” Davis said in an interview with The Root. “But rather than complain, I felt like I should be part of the solution.”

She continued, “When I looked for books for my son, I didn’t want them to be about a random lion. I wanted a poignant message that was age appropriate for kids.”

So, Davis set out to become a part of the solution to create books geared towards children of color. The anchor has now penned five children’s books that deliver both diversity and equality while simultaneously helping parents who are struggling to find ways to talk to their kids about difficult issues.

“Initially, my main focus had been on the mirrors and making sure my son saw himself reflected. Then, I realized that it was just as important for non-Black and Brown parents to use these books as tools to serve as a window so their children can see a different world,” she said.

In her interview, the Good Morning America host continued to discuss how her books are for everyone, not just children and parents of color.

“My books have Black and Brown characters, but they’re not just for Black and Brown kids. In every book, there is always intentionally a family spread, a community spread. My goal is that anyone can look at the characters and see someone who looks like them whether it’s someone who is Black or in a wheelchair, you’re going to see community.”

All of Davis’ books were inspired by her son Ayden. You can check out her entire repertoire here which includes titles such as: “The Smallest Spot of a Dot: The Little Ways We’re Different, The Big Ways We’re the Same,” “One Big Heart: A Celebration of Being More Alike than Different,” “The World Is Awake: A celebration of everyday blessings,” “How High is Heaven?,” and “Stay This Way Forever.”
