Russell took to Instagram after the Nuggets gained the victory to celebrate. The NFL star shared a picture of his family wearing jerseys that supported Denver. “Such a special moment,” Russell told his social media fans. “Denver Nuggets World Champs,” Wilson exclaimed.

Ciara followed up with congratulatory remarks for the team as well. “Go Nuggets,” the singer wrote in the comments section of her husband’s Instagram post. “Such a magical night.”

The Denver Nuggets were considered by some as the underdogs this NBA season. The team, however, managed to beat the Miami Heat during Monday night’s game with a final score of 89-94.

Many have attributed the team’s success to Nikola Jokic who was named MVP by ESPN. “It puts him in the legendary category for what he’s done statistically in the Finals,” Isiah Thomas, former Detroit Pistons player, shared with the press. “I don’t know if there’s anyone who’s ever had a statistical run in the NBA Finals as a center as he had in these categories,” the former athlete shared.

Kevin Durant also sang Jokic’s praise. “Jokic is an all-time great,” the star athlete said. “[He is] going to go down as one of the all-time great centers to ever touch a basketball,” Durant declared.

Nikola Jokic is certainly on the radar of many basketball fans after his performance this season. “I think it’s a great journey,” the Denver Nuggets player told the press. “[I was the] 41st pick [in the draft], but that doesn’t matter,” Jokic added in reference to him being one of lowest drafted to reach MVP status in the NBA. “When you’re here, you’re a [NBA] player,” the athlete declared.

NBA Twitter went wild after the Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat on Monday night. “Absolutely brutal for my Heat,” one Miami fan admitted. “But the Nuggets had a dominant run this postseason. AND Jokic is the best player in the game right now.” Another NBA fan wrote, “For the Heat’s sake, I’m just glad it’s over.”

Denver plans to host a parade in honor of the Nuggets winning the NBA championship this Thursday (Jun. 15).
