#Blackgirlmagic is truly an amazing thing. The San Francisco 49ers Foundation is making sure that it continues to flourish and grow, supporting the empowerment of Black girls in the Bay Area.
The team announced the news via 49ers.com and also shared the excitement per their official Instagram account.
“Remaining faithful to the entire Bay Area. The #49ersFoundation is thrilled to announce the Oakland Unified School District’s African American Female Excellence (AAFE) as our newest legacy nonprofit partner and first-ever expansion into the East Bay.”
The African American Female Excellence (AAFE) program serves more than 300 girls across elementary, middle, and high school across the Oakland area. According to their website, the AAFE, “provides daily Black girl-centered classes & weekly girls groups, which are integrated into the core-school day, in addition to providing city-wide programs and events. AAFE is actively revolutionizing the way public educational institutions serve Black students in Oakland.”
The San Francisco 49ers Foundation will provide the district $100,000 of annual funding for the program.
“After more than 30 years of community impact work and over $60 million invested back into Bay Area communities, we couldn’t be more excited to finally expand our impact into Oakland for East Bay youth,” said Justin Prettyman, Executive Director of the 49ers Foundation in a recent statement.
He continued, “By implementing classes and programs specifically for African American girls into the school day, AAFE helps Oakland schools prioritize Black youth development. We look forward to aiding their mission in any way that we can.”
The OUSD Superintendent, Dr. Kayla Johnson-Trammell, was super excited about this new partnership.
“It means so much to [AAFE], our students, families, staff and our greater Oakland Community to be welcomed into the San Francisco 49ers Foundation family as their newest legacy beneficiary…We are excited to expand and deepen our programming for Black girls in the [OUSD]. This partnership will bring in unique resources and visibility to the important work we are embarking on to inspire and develop the next generation of young women leading our communities – near and far,” said Dr. Johnson-Trammell.
Congratulations to both OUSD, AAFE, and The San Francisco 49ers Foundation! This partnership is unquestionably going to expand the resources and services that are needed to spread #blackgirlmagic even further than imagined.
