“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” Serena wrote on Instagram.
In 2022, Williams revealed that she stepped down from professional tennis to focus on her daughter and expanding her family.
“I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out,” the 41-year-old shared with Vogue.
Williams detailed the lengthy and difficult process that led her to ultimately “having to” retire from professional tennis. She emphasized the importance of family, writing, “These days, if I have to choose between building my tennis résumé and building my family, I choose the latter.”
Williams cited three factors that contributed to her difficult decision: expanding her family, the challenges faced as a woman in sport, and the struggle to maintain a work/life balance. In an open letter, she addressed the difficulties of balancing motherhood and her tennis career, stating, “I am proud to have been able to represent women and mothers in sports…I’m proud to have been a leader in that discussion. And as an athlete, an African American woman, and a mother, I’ve given it all I can.”
Serena and her husband husband Alexis Ohanian are already parents to 5-year-old Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.
Congrats to the couple!
