Da Brat and Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart are expecting a baby boy! The couple, who tied the knot in 2020, learned of the sex of their baby at their gender reveal party today.

Da Brat, who is 48,  recently shared that her journey to motherhood has been a learning experience. “It’s been quite a journey,” she says, “there’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.”

 Da Brat and Jesseca’s decision to have a baby started as a joke when Harris-Dupart was in the midst of launching a new hair products line inspired by Da Brat’s iconic braids and protective hairstyles. “It started as a joke, we were like, ‘We’re extending our family!'” Harris-Dupart says of their tongue-in-cheek marketing tagline. “But then we got a huge response. It was like, ‘Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!'”

For Harris-Dupart, who is already a mother of three, having children was always a part of her plan. However, for Da Brat, kids weren’t ever really a part of her plan. “I never thought I was going to have kids,” she says. “I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me.”

That is, until she met and fell for Harris-Dupart. “I started looking at life so differently,” says Da Brat. “I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”

Despite her desire to have a child with Jesseca, Da Brat wasn’t keen on the idea of carrying a child. “I was like, nothing’s gonna come out of me!” Harris-Dupart was able to convince her otherwise. “We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience,” says her wife. “She is so nurturing.”
