Osaka shared the flag of Japan in the caption section of her social media post as a way to inform her supporters of her whereabouts. “You look so good mama,” one Instagram fan said in reference to the candids. “The bump,” another follower wrote. “Congratulations.”

Naomi Osaka and her boyfriend, Cordae, shared the news of their expectancy with fans in January. The tennis champion shared an image from a doctor’s visit to announce her family’s expansion. “Can’t wait to get back on the court,” Naomi told her social media fans. “But here’s a little life update for 2023,” the sports player added.

Many know Naomi from her actions on the tennis court. The rising star established herself as a force with which to be reckoned after beating Serena Williams in a match during the Miami Open in 2018. Naomi beat the legendary player again during the U.S. Open Championship in the same year.

Osaka stepped away from competing in tennis matches in 2021 after revealing her struggles with depression. The star athlete’s decision came after critics scrutinized her for skipping press conferences.

“Perhaps we should give athletes the right to take a mental break from media scrutiny on a rare occasion without being subject to strict sanctions,” Osaka said of the backlash she received from the public and officials in the sport.

“In any other line of work, you would be forgiven for taking a personal day here and there, so long as it’s not habitual. You wouldn’t have to divulge your most personal symptoms to your employer; there would likely be HR measures protecting at least some level of privacy,” the tennis player shared.

“In my case, I felt under a great amount of pressure to disclose my symptoms—frankly because the press and the tournament did not believe me,” Osaka revealed. “I do not wish that on anyone and hope that we can enact measures to protect athletes, especially the fragile ones,” Naomi explained.

“I also do not want to have to engage in a scrutiny of my personal medical history ever again,” the tennis player declared. “So I ask the press for some level of privacy and empathy next time we meet.”

Since temporarily stepping away from professional tennis, Naomi has written a children’s book called The Way Champs Play. She recently took to Instagram to celebrate becoming an author and her forthcoming life as a mom.

“Reading my first book to my firstborn,” Naomi told her social media fans. “I just got to hold a final copy of my new book and I can’t wait for you all to read it,” the star athlete exclaimed.
