Michelle Obama has added the title, podcaster to her resume. Going beyond that of her inspirational books, the former First Lady, now has a new podcast, Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast on Audible.com. In her premiere episode, Mrs. Obama sits down with the co-host of NBC’s TODAY, Hoda Kotb. The pair talk about a variety of topics, including showing kids “gladness.”
Mrs. Obama is a true champion of youth. Continually encouraging young people to reach beyond the stars. In her conversation with Kotb, she highlights this sentiment, saying that spreading “gladness” is one main reason why she spends so much time with kids.
“There are a lot of kids who can live their whole life and not be received with gladness and I just think, man, if this interaction is their chance to be seen by somebody and somebody that they think is important, I’m not gonna squander it.”
The two-time author quotes Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison to further cement the idea of why parents/adults should show kids gladness.
“What Toni Morrison says is that our kids just want our gladness. They don’t need us to fix them,” Mrs. Obama said during the podcast. “They don’t need us to point out the thing that’s wrong first and I write about that because that is a practice. I know that I try to practice that with kids in the world.”
So, just why has Mrs. Obama now taken to podcasting? Well, in a press release about the show, she explains it all.

Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast is a joint venture between Audible and Higher Ground, the production company President Obama and Mrs. Obama formed in 2018. New episodes of the podcast will will be released weekly.
