Kimora Lee Simmons shed light on her daughters, Aoki Lee Simmons and Ming Lee Simmons, on International Women’s Day. The fashion mogul took to Instagram on Wednesday (Mar. 8) to share appreciation for her kids.
“Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them. Happy International Women’s Day,” Kimora Lee Simmons wrote in the caption section of her Instagram post. The quote the fashion mogul shared is from a book by Not Only Journals.
Kimora Lee Simmons has inspired both of her daughters to follow in her path of modeling. It was just a few months ago that Aoki defended her decision to pursue a career as a model beyond her undergraduate years at Harvard University. Some critics bluntly pointed out Aoki’s intellect as a reason for her to choose a different path.
“I really want us to move towards a future where young women aren’t being asked this question,” Aoki said in her response to the scrutiny. “Like, not being asked, ‘Why did you follow your more creative passion even though you’re smart?’ she continued.
“I would like to change the idea that you can’t be smart and pretty, or you can’t be smart and enjoy your looks or enjoy a creative, beauty- [and] fashion-based career,” Aoki told her supporters and critics. “You can be two kinds of people in one person,” the young adult shared.
Kimora Lee Simmons also defended her daughter’s decision to build a career in fashion. “I love it that she’s trying to follow in my footsteps,” the celebrity mom shared with the press.
“But also I think it’s a pain because if I had had some of what they have, maybe I wouldn’t have been a model,” Kimora admitted. “But I think it’s just looking at different sides of a coin,” the fashion mogul said. “If I’ve done it and I know it’s tough and I know it’s a little janky. Why would you want to do it? But we love an educated clumsy queen. She is an educated, clumsy queen.”
