Ahead of her long-awaited return to the stage during this weekend’s Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, Rihanna gets candid about her work-life balance, saying that it is “almost impossible’ as a new mom.
“It’s very different,” the 34-year-old mother told Apple Music’s Nadeska. “The balance is almost impossible because no matter how you look at it, work is always something that’s going to rob you of time with your child. That’s the currency now, that’s where it goes. The magnitude of how much it weighs.”
Rihanna continued in the interview saying that, “When you make decisions of what you’re going to say yes to, it has to be worth it.”
And of course, performing during the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show is definitely worth it for the “Umbrella” singer. She credits that it was actually becoming a mom to give her the confidence to do a show this big.
“When you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you can take on the world. You can do anything, and the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world,” she said. “So, as scary as that was… there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all, and it’s important for me to do this this year. It’s important for representation. It’s important for my son to see that.”
So what can fans expect from Rihanna during the halftime show? Well, although the playlist and special guests are being kept secret, Rihanna guarantees that it will be memorable!
“The setlist was the biggest challenge. That was the hardest part — deciding how to maximize 13 minutes, but also celebrate. That’s what the show’s going to be — it’s going to be a celebration of my catalog in the best way,” she said. “I think we did a pretty good job at narrowing it down.”
And a celebration it will unquestionably be as the Fenty founder has stated that her performance will be dedicated to representing Barbados, immigrants and Black women around the world.
She will take the stage “for immigrants, represent for my country, Barbados, [and] represent for Black women everywhere. That’s key for people to see the possibilities. And I’m honored to be here. I’m honored to be doing this this year.”
Tune-into Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, February 12, 2023 on Fox!
