That Girl Lay Lay, Marsai Martin are among the 2023 NAACP Image Awards Nominees.
One of our BCKOnline favorite faces, Alaya High, aka That Girl Lay Lay, shared the exciting news of her nomination on Instagram saying, “This is just crazy!!! Being nominated is a win already to me because fr like WOOW!!”
High continued, “Thank you @naacpimageawards and thank you thank you to every single person that helped me get here…took a huge village.”
Adding to the excitement, NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson shared his own feelings about this year’s nominees in a personal statement.
“This year’s nominees have conveyed a wide range of authentic stories and diverse experiences that have resonated with many in our community, and we’re proud to recognize their outstanding achievements and performances,” Johnson’s statement read.
Connie Orlando, BET executive VP of specials, music programming, and music strategy added, “We take pride in recognizing the trailblazing achievements and artistry of this year’s esteemed nominees and celebrating the powerful legacy of the NAACP. We look forward to bringing the Image Awards back to Pasadena in front of a live audience and delivering unforgettable moments that epitomize the brilliance of the Black community.”
