Mariah Carey spent Christmas with her kids, Monroe and Moroccan, and Santa Claus. The legendary singer, whom many have deemed as the Queen of Christmas, shared pictures from her Christmas Eve night out with the twins and Jolly Old St. Nick.
“Surprise midnight sleigh ride on Christmas Eve,” Mariah told her Instagram fans. “That’s what I call a Queen of Christmas,” one fan shared. “Someone who gets a visit by Santa.” Another social media follower wrote, “No one above her.”
Many have called Mariah Carey the Queen of Christmas for years because of her hit single, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’ which tops the charts every year during the holiday season. The singer, however, recently ran into opposition when she attempted to trademark the phrase, “Queen of Christmas.” Elizabeth Chan and Darlene Love were two who stood against Mariah’s trademark request.
“As an independent artist and small business owner, my life’s work is to bring people together for the holiday season, which is how I came to be called the Queen of Christmas,” Chan shared in a press statement. “I wear that title as a badge of honor and with full knowledge that it will be — and should be — bestowed on others in the future,” she continued. “My goal in taking on this fight was to stand up to trademark bullying not just to protect myself but also to protect future Queens of Christmas.”
Despite some accusing her of being the “self-proclaimed” Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey revealed that she has never deemed herself as such.
“They can look up every interview I’ve ever done, and not to get super religious, but I was like, ‘I think, like, if anybody would be the ‘Queen of Christmas,’ that would be Mary,” Carey said during a recent interview with Stephen Colbert.
“I just happen to actually really love Christmas,” Mariah shared. “Because I grew up and had kind of a tough childhood, and I always wanted Christmas to be perfect, and it never was,” she explained. “So then when I was able to finally provide myself and my friends and then later now my little kids … we have the most festive Christmas ever.”
Per tradition, Mariah Carey and her twins spent Christmas in snowy weather. The recording artist enjoyed a shopping spree with her daughter before watching her Christmas special, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To All!, which is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
