NICK CANNON DELVES INTO LATE SON’S BATTLE WITH CANCER AND MORE

"I'm Spread Thin"

Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott were not ready for the devastating news they received one fateful day in 2021. The celebrity parents took their son, Zen Cannon, to the hospital for a checkup regarding what they believed to be asthma. Nick and Alyssa were shocked to learn that their little one had cancer.

“When we took him to the doctor, they noticed that his head was larger than it should have been at two months,” Nick reveals in a new interview with CBS News. “That’s when they did a lot of tests,” Cannon shares. “They didn’t let him leave the hospital. And so you can imagine, you think you’re taking your son in to get a checkup for asthma, and to know that he’s diagnosed with brain cancer. That was a shock.”

Zen Cannon died on December 5, 2022, after a brave battle with brain cancer. The little one underwent several procedures before his untimely passing, which were geared towards extending his life. Zen did not, however, undergo chemotherapy.

“Seeing your son hooked up to all of those machines — and he had to go for a shunt two or three times, and that was heartbreaking every time — even in that short amount of time, I couldn’t imagine him having to go through chemo,” Cannon tells the press.

Nick has welcomed four children since Zen’s death. “Being a father of multiple kids, it’s always the biggest guilt on me is that I don’t get to spend enough time with all my children,” Cannon admits to CBS News. “One ’cause I’m constantly working and two because I’m just spread thin,” he explains.

Still, even with his time being spread thin between the kids, Nick manages to give all of his children the attention they need from their father. Such attention includes dressing up as the Easter Bunny for Easter and serving as Santa Claus at Christmas time.

Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott are expecting their second child to arrive any day. The little one will make him a father for the twelfth time.
