Angela Bassett was joined by her son, Slater, and husband, Courtney B. Vance, at the 2022 Wearable Art Gala by WACO Theater Center this past weekend. The veteran actress was honored at the formal event.
“I’m the most blessed lady in the world right now with not one, but TWO handsome men celebrating with me tonight,” Angela told her social media fans on Saturday (Oct. 22). Both Courtney B. Vance and Slater were dressed to impress alongside Angela who wore a beautiful green gown that channeled the 1920s and 1930s.
The 2022 Wearable Art Gala paid tribute the Harlem Reinassance with the theme of “Step Into Harlem Nights.” The benefit also raised funds to support WACO Theater’s youth and mentorship programs. Angela Bassett was honored with the Film & TV Icon Award. Richard Lawson, husband of Tina Lawson, commented on the work his theater continues to do for the community despite the challenges brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
“As we continue to navigate the setbacks of the pandemic, we are excited for the opportunity to gather again in person and garner support for the artists, audiences, and young people that our work serves and will continue to serve,” Lawson shared with the press. “[The 2022 Wearable Art Gala is] a party with a purpose and after two years virtually, I’m glad that we can connect, continue to pour into our mentees, and at the same time, honor a piece of our history through this artistic experience,” the theater’s co-founder shared.
Mark Bradford was also honored at this year’s Wearable Art Gala with the Art Icon Award. Chloe Bailey and Halle Bailey rendered musical tributes during the event. Andra Day also gave a special performance at this year’s gala. Keke Palmer hosted the charity event while Star Jones served as art auctioneer.
