Mel B and Eddie Murphy welcomed their daughter in 2007 after dating for several months. The longstanding agreement of Murphy paying Brown $25,000 per month in child support was brought into question by Mel B in 2020. The singer requested an increase due to her personal income significantly reducing.

“Eddie and Melanie have both established careers in the entertainment industry,” Mel’s lawyer shared in documents prepared for court. “Melanie is a singer, songwriter, and television personality,” the attorney continued. “Eddie is a legendary comedian and actor.”

“Until recently, Melanie has been fortunate in her career to sustain a comfortable lifestyle for herself and Angel,” Mel’s lawyer shared in court documents. “Unfortunately, Melanie’s income has dramatically reduced, such that she must consider modifying child support for the first time.”

The COVID pandemic was still at its height when Mel B submitted her request for an increase in child support. She initially petitioned an increase of up to $25,000 per month to help offset her income’s reduction. The singer, however, ultimately came to an agreement with her daughter’s father that an additional $10,000 per month would be sufficient.

Eddie Murphy, who was identified as an “extraordinarily high earner” in recent court documents, will retroactively pay Mel B $35,000 per month from October 2022. The payments will continue until Angel celebrates her eighteenth birthday in 2025. Eddie Murphy will also cover “add-on” costs, which include health insurance and educational expenses.

Angel is Eddie Murphy and Mel B’s only child together. Murphy has 10 kids in all and a granddaughter named Evie Isla Murphy.
