Robin Thicke is one proud father. The singer recently touted his 12-year-old son’s talent on The Jennifer Hudson Show saying that he is a talented singer and budding guitarist who has “got the gift”.
Thicke said in his interview with Hudson that Julian “started singing from a very young age,” he added, “I would give him whatever little pointers I could.”
“The Lost Without You” singer continued, noting Julian will play Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in his upcoming school play. “He’s a natural singer and he just got a lead part in the middle school play.
Sounds like the 12-year-old is also taking after his mother, actress Paula Patton.
Thicke also told the Respect actress that he wants his son to “write his own songs” now that he’s started “playing a little guitar.” However, he does stress that if that is not what his son may want, he will still be there to cheer him on no matter what.
“It’s really his journey and his life. I more encourage him to be himself and love himself.”
In 2021, Thicke sat down and spoke with the popular news magazine television show, Extra about his co-parenting relationship with Patton after their 2014 split. The singer noted that all of the “bickering” between the pair was making parenting together very hard to navigate.
“We used co-parenting couples therapy, and that really opened the door for communication in a much better way for us,” he revealed in his interview. “And our son is thriving.”
Thicke added, “Nothing makes you prouder as parents when you had some tough times … figured it out, and your son is thriving because of it.”
Patton and Thicke are truly lucky that they have figured out how to co-parent amicably and let Julian’s light shine. We have a feeling that this is just the beginning of his ascent into his own super spotlight.
