Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, wants to mend the broken parts of his co-parenting relationship with Kim Kardashian. The rapper recently sat down with Good Morning America (GMA) to discuss the possibility of him running for president in 2024 and to also apologize to his ex-wife.
“This is the mother of my children, and I apologize for any stress that I have caused, even in my frustration, because God calls me to be stronger,” Ye shared. “I need this person to be less stressed and of the best, sound mind and as calm as possible to be able to raise those children at the end of the day,” he added.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were married for nearly seven years before she filed for divorce last February. The petition for marriage dissolution came several months after Ye’s presidential campaign during which he revealed his and Kim’s initial discussion that revolved around aborting their oldest daughter, North West.
“I remember when my girlfriend [at the time] called me screaming and crying,” Ye told his supporters on the campaign trail. “Then, she said, ‘I’m pregnant,'” he added. “And for one month, and two months and three months, we talked about her not having this child,” Ye revealed.
“I said, ‘We are going to have this child.’ I know people who are 50 years old who don’t have a child. So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn’t want to.”
Kim explained to her supporters and critics that her then-husband lived with bipolar disorder. She did not go into detail about Ye’s statement or other personal affairs. Ye gave his then-wife a public apology. The two ultimately separated, though. Ye has been on the journey of co-parenting alongside Kim ever since.
“As a dad and as a Christian. And I have a right to have a voice on what my kids are wearing, what they’re watching, what they’re eating,” the celebrity father shared during his recent interview on GMA. “I have a platform where I get to say what so many dads can’t say out loud,” he declared.
Kim Kardashian and Ye have four kids – North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm – together.
