Jhené Aiko is not slowing down. The pregnant recording artist headlined her first show since announcing her expectancy this past weekend.
Aiko’s performance at the L.A. Greek Theater was sold out. Deemed as a show where “sounds give birth to light,” the event placed Jhené’s new record label, ALLEL Sounds, in the spotlight. August08, who is the first artist signed to Jhené’s label, took centerstage during the show.
Jhené Aiko has been on a high for more reasons than a few. Not only is the singer expecting a child with her boyfriend, Big Sean, but Jhené has also been in the season of reaping the reward of making great music. Her 2017 album Trip was recently certified platinum by RIAA. The project represents Jhené’s evolution as both an artist and a mom.
“I just feel like as a person, I really see the importance of family now more than ever,” Jhené shared during an interview with Billboard in 2017. “I’ve taken a lot of trips to escape,” she added. “I read a lot of books from Thich Nhat Hanh. He’s a Vietnamese monk and he talks a lot about finding that peace within yourself and finding that peace within your immediate family, because people so often try to tackle the world without tackling their own issues within their self and within their family.”
Jhené will soon have an immediate family that includes one new member. She and her boyfriend confirmed their expectancy of a child earlier this year after a fan saw Aiko at the grocery store and took to social media with the theory of her as pregnant. The supporter was more than positive that they saw a baby bump during their brief interaction with Jhené. The speculation turned out to be accurate as Big Sean and a representative for Jhené confirmed her expectancy.
Big Sean and Jhené Aiko will welcome their first child together in the coming weeks. The little one will join Aiko’s daughter, Namiko Browner, at home.
