Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade have a new children’s book called Shady Baby Feels. The basis of the story was inspired by their daughter Kavia James’ tantrums.
“In a nutshell, her tantrums inspired it,” Gabrielle shared during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW). “The fact that we just kept saying, use your words, use your words, use your words. And it was just screaming, biting, kicking. Turns out she’s got a great left hook,” the celebrity mom mused.
“But [it’s about] her understanding how to identify what she’s feeling so she can communicate to us what she’s feeling versus just these displays of her frustration and rage,” Union said of Kaavia’s development. “Use your words: Are you scared? Are you tired? Are you bored? Are you frustrated? Just trying to help her understand what she is actually feeling so she can share with adults, so we can know how to help her.”
Shady Baby made its debut in the book world last May. The children’s book was quite the hit as many who follow Kaavia on Instagram purchased it to see how Dwyane and Gabrielle brought the youngster’s hilarious faces to life in a story. The latest installment in the Shady Baby series comes after Gabrielle was stretched as a parent.
“I never thought I would be the person who would cry with my child through a tantrum, but I cry all the time,” Union revealed to EW. “Because it’s the most helpless feeling there is, that there’s something wrong with your kid,” she added. “You have no idea how to help or what specifically it is. So this book is for both of us. I know that there’s a lot of parents and kids going through this who need all of the help that they can get.”
