Friday (Jul. 1) was Shayla Gibson’s birthday! Tyrese took to Instagram to commemorate his daughter’s special day with pictures and plans to travel to Dubai with his teen.
“Happy Birthday Shayla,” Tyrese wrote to his daughter. “Dubai, here we come,” the celebrity father exclaimed. “I can’t wait to show you the culture, the life of Abu Dhabi and Dubai,” Tyrese wrote to Shayla.
“From the beginning, I’ve done my very best to raise you and instill respect, integrity, and morals and after graduating into the 9th grade … I wish I had both of my daughters with me,” Tyrese admitted. “She’s only 3 [years old] but I want them both so badly to experience one of my favorite places on earth.”
Shayla is Tyrese’s daughter with Norma Mitchell. The all-around entertainer ended his marriage to Shayla’s mother in 2009 after two years of marriage. Tyrese wed Samantha Lee in 2017. The two welcomed their daughter, Soraya Lee Gibson, the following year. Tyrese and Samantha separated in 2020 with Tyrese publicly citing an “attack on Black families” as the primary reason for his marriage ending. Samantha, however, spoke out about her decision to file for marriage dissolution during a very transparent Instagram Live segment.
“When relationships end or friendships end, I can walk away knowing I can drop the mic,” Samantha shared with her fans. “I did everything I could do,” Samantha added. “And at that point, I feel like when I do that and I know that God has tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘Okay, Sam,’ it’s like, you know what? I did everything I could do,” Tyrese’s estranged wife continued.
“At this point, all I can do is trust God,” Samantha revealed. “All I can do is either trust God to either do whatever, whether to give me peace and proceed with my peace or continue to stay in this cycle with whatever person I’m dealing with at the time, whether it be a friendship or a relationship.”
Tyrese took to Instagram on Saturday (Jul. 2) to share an update on how his and Shayla’s trip to Dubai was going. “My daughter deserves the WOLRD,” the recording artist exclaimed. “Welcome to Dubai Shayla ‘Princess’ Gibson,” he added. “Happy 15th birthday,” Tyrese said. “I have never been more proud of anything ever in my life. [I] tried for almost eight years to bring you here. Welcome to Dubai, my angel.”
