“Hey guys, please help me congratulate my oldest @thekrissc on graduating from Hamilton High School on her way to Spelman College,” Warryn told his social media fans. “So proud of you, Pop-Pop,” the celebrity father said.
Some remember Krista Campbell from her younger years. The teen brought up the issue of colorism during an episode of We’re The Campbells. “A lot of the guys like light-skinned girls,” Krista shared.
“Look at my family,” the teen continued in her reasoning with her mom. “You and dad: light-skinned/dark-skinned. Auntie Tina and Uncle Ted: light-skinned/dark-skinned. Auntie Alaina and Uncle Dez: light-skinned/dark-skinned. The only two dark-skinned/dark-skinned families are Auntie Lisa and Uncle Errol and nana and grandpa,” Krista revealed.
Erica Campbell tried to dismiss her daughter’s argument but could not deny the facts Krista presented. “Look at all these beautiful brown people in the world,” Erica responded to her daughter. “Look at Gabrielle Union,” the celebrity mom added. “She’s brown [with a] gorgeous, amazing husband. Look at Kelly Rowland: beautiful. These are beautiful, brown women everywhere. All around you.”
Krista responded to her mom, “You’re light-skinned, so you don’t really know exactly how it feels.” Dozens felt the teen’s pain and gave their support on Twitter.
“That moment with @ImEricaCampbell and her daughter tore me apart because she’s such a beautiful girl with an amazing spirit,” one social media supporter said. Another Twitter user wrote, “I hate that when #colorism is brought up so many black men (light and dark) and lighter skinned people try to discredit the conversation as if it’s not a legitimate issue. It’s identical to privileged whites ignoring racism because it doesn’t affect them.”
Krista is one of three children Warryn and Erica Campbell parent. The celebrity couple also has a son named Warryn III and a younger daughter named Zaya.
