17: How was it acting alongside your ‘sister’ Saniyya Sidney?

Demi Singleton: Working alongside my sister Saniyya was so much fun. We had the best time on set together! I say this a lot, but she really is like the older sister I never had because I’m the oldest of my siblings. She is truly amazing for putting up with my craziness, and I love her a lot.

17: What is your favorite movie?

DS: That’s a very hard question because I love a lot of movies. But, if I had to choose, I would say The Princess and the Frog. That’s been my comfort movie since I was a very little girl. I think I’m most intrigued with the way that Tiana was so determined to get what she wanted. It was so inspiring to me when I was three and even now.

17: What is your favorite memory from set?

DS:
I would have to say that my favorite memory from set was when Serena and Venus surprised us. We were so nervous to meet them, but they’re so incredibly sweet. We spoke to them about what their childhood was like, what they liked to do for fun, and even the boys they had crushes on! I felt honored to get to know them as just people and learned that we had more in common than I thought. They are hilarious and had us all crying of laughter. We love and respect them both so much and consider them as family.

17: Who is your dream co-star?

DS: I can’t choose just one because there are so many people that I would like to work alongside during my career but some adult actresses that I would love to work with are Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyongo, and Cynthia Erivo.

There is also so much young talent that I would love to work with like Marsai Martin and Shahadi Wright Joseph. They are phenomenal actresses, and amazing young women who inspire me every day.

17: What is your favorite snack?

DS: I love salt and vinegar potato chips and party cake flavored little bites muffins!

17: What advice do you have for other young Black girls chasing their dreams?

DS: I would say to be yourself, have fun, and just do what you love. It can be tough chasing your dreams. I realized that in this industry, you will hear “no” a hundred times before you even hear one “yes”, but I haven’t let that stop me from doing what I love. Remember who you are, and that you are capable of anything!

17: Describe your perfect day?

DS: Any day where I can sit in bed, read books, eat Chick-fil-a, and watch Grey’s Anatomy is an absolutely perfect day.

17: Who is your biggest role model?

DS: My biggest role model is my mom. She has taught me so much and is an excellent example of a woman who knows her worth. She is the absolute best and has helped me become the person I am today.
