Nick Cannon’s youngest son with Alyssa Scott has died from a brain tumor. The celebrity father shared the heartbreaking news of his 5-month-old’s passing during a recent segment of his talk show.
“I had a very tough weekend,” Nick told his audience during Tuesday’s episode of Nick Cannon. The celebrity father decided to feature a candid of his late son as the “Pic Of The Day.” Nick could not hold back the tears as a picture of Zen smiling while looking at the camera showed on the big screen.
“Zen was born on June 23rd,” Nick told his fans. “He was the most loving [baby]. We called him Z-chilling. He was always smiling [and] always having the most beautiful spirit. But I always noticed, to me, he had like a little sinus thing, like a little cough.”
In addition to what seemed to be a recurring cough, Zen also had a breathing pattern that concerned Nick. “He had this interesting breathing and by the time he was two months, I noticed he had this nice sized head too — a Cannon head,” the celebrity father said. “We didn’t think anything of it. But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinus and breathing. We thought it would be routine.”
The visit was anything but routine as the doctor informed Nick and Alyssa that their son was battling Hydrocephalus, which is a form of brain cancer that causes a buildup of fluid in the brain’s cavities that ultimately puts pressure on the brain. Zen underwent surgery to drain the fluid. Things, however, took a turn for the worse on Thanksgiving weekend.
“This weekend I made an effort to spend the most quality time with Zen,” Nick told his audience during Tuesday’s episode. “We woke up on Sunday and went to the ocean with him and Alyssa and then I had to fly back to New York for the show,” the celebrity father said. “I got a call on my way to the airport to head back to Zen.”
Zen passed away with loved ones surrounding him. Nick Cannon dedicated Tuesday’s episode to his youngest child.
