High School Musical (HSM) star Monique Coleman had a village to support her after she endured the heartbreak of a miscarriage. The actress tells E! News how she and her former co-star Corbin Bleu reconnected just in time for him to give her invaluable support.
“I thought that I was going to be doing the movie pregnant,” Coleman shared regarding her reunion with Bleu for Lifetime’s A Christmas Dance Reunion. “If I was pregnant, I was excited to be with Corbin and [his wife] Sasha because I knew that they would be able to carry me and hold me through that experience,” the actress shared with E! News. “And when I wasn’t, they were also able to be there for me in a way that I can’t even really describe,” Coleman shared.
Monique Coleman suffered a miscarriage in 2019 that was beyond heartbreaking. “On August 7, 2019, I had a miscarriage,” Coleman told her social media fans in October 2019. “For the first time in my life, I couldn’t string together eloquent enough words to express what I had been through in a meaningful and impactful way,” the High School Musical star revealed. “However, when I learned that 1 in 4 women experiences this devastating and unexplainable loss I knew I couldn’t remain silent.”
Coleman has been vocal about her experience in hopes of helping other women who suffer in silence. Corbin Bleu ensured his HSM co-star felt supported in her efforts.
“They sent a photo and a prayer and told me that they were thinking of me,” Coleman said of Bleu and his wife showing extra love on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day, which is on October 15 every year.
“We were in quarantine in our respective rooms [while shooting A Christmas Dance Reunion], but to be able to talk to them about that and to bond with them in this really difficult time where I’m alone in a room by myself, but not to feel alone, was just so special,” Coleman shared.
Monique Coleman and her husband, Walter Jordan, celebrated nine years of marriage this year.
