Abby Phillip is a doting mom. The CNN journalist recently opened up about her life as a new mom during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.
“You only get your first one once, so I’m going to take that time, spend it with her and nurture her until she watches me go back to work and learns that mommy has a job,” Abby says of her maternity leave. Phillip welcomed her daughter, Naomi Angelina Richardson, on August 16, 2021. Little Naomi made Abby and her husband, Marcus Richardson, parents for the first time.
“Being a mom has felt so natural,” Abby tells PEOPLE. “It’s the most important responsibility that I have,” the CNN journalist shares.
Although Phillip enjoys spending time at home with her daughter, she is a bit eager to get back to work. “From the beginning, Marcus knew he was dating a journalist who was attached to her phone and working seven [days] a week,” Abby says of her lifestyle before marriage and a child. “He always took that in stride,” Phillip further explains of her husband’s support through the years. “We’ve put a lot of time and effort into our relationship,” Abby shares with PEOPLE. “I don’t want motherhood to change me too much.”
The journalist goes on to say, “I’m a believer in bringing your child along with your life. I want to keep doing the things that I normally do, working and traveling, seeing friends and going out and having a glass of wine.”
Abby Phillip is known for her work as a journalist covering politics in America. She often serves as an anchor for CNN on the weekends in addition to working as a political correspondent who often travels to the White House for press conferences.
Phillip has made guest appearances on Washington Week and C-SPAN as well.
