Those looking for a feel-good story on the big screen may want to consider Cinderella this weekend. The timeless story gets a modern-day upgrade with Cinderella (Camila Cabello) having a fabulous godmother, called Fab G (Billy Porter), who brings her fantasies to life. Billy Porter recently discussed his reimagining of Cinderella’s fairy godmother during a recent interview with TODAY.
“Very often our old fairytales can be slightly problematic for modern-day consumption,” Porter shared. “This version speaks to that as it is very much about the empowerment of women,” the visionary added.
“Kay looked at the Fairy Godmother and said, ‘It’s time to shake it up,'” Porter shared. “And I get to benefit and portray a character for today’s generation to look up to and be entertained and inspired by,” the fashion designer said.
You can watch Cinderella on Amazon Prime on Friday, September 3, 2021.
