Is Blue Ivy wearing Biggie’s $500K crown in new photos? It appears so, and social media is all about it!
The $6.00 plastic novelty crown was worn by the late Notorious B.I.G. during his “King of New York” photoshoot. Th crown, sold by photographer Barron Claiborne, made history exceeding Sotheby’s pre-auction estimate.
“This crown is a novelty item; I bought it at a place on Broadway called Gordon’s,” Claiborne told the New York Post in an interview. “Without Biggie, the crown would not be worth [six figures]. I only paid six bucks for it.”
Originally, the famed auction house estimated the sale would be between $200,000 to $300,000. Autographed by both Biggie and the photographer, the crown had a final sale of $600,000, setting a record at Sotheby’s first-ever auction dedicated to hip-hop memorabilia.
Claiborne added in a statement: “With the tragic events that unfolded just days after the photoshoot, this image of a crowned Notorious B.I.G. became much more than a portrait — the image transformed Biggie Smalls into an aristocratic or saint-like figure, forever immortalized as not only the King of New York but a king of hip-hop music and one of the greatest artists of all time.”
Proving that she is definitely a princess, Blue Ivy has been spotted celebrating her Grammy win in Biggie’s crown and with a special sippy cup.
The nine-year-old appeared in an Instagram highlight reel posted by Beyoncé. At the 80-second mark of the video, Blue Ivy can be seen smiling in the crown and holding her converted gramophone. And of course, Twitter was unquestionably all abuzz!
One Twitter user wrote, “I am all about blue ivy wearing her biggie crown while drinking out of HER GRAMMY.”

One Twitter user said that wearing Biggie’s crown and drinking out of her Grammy gave the nine-year-old legend status.
“She’s really so nonchalant about it. she’s wearing biggie’s crown AND sipping out of her own grammy at 9 years old???? blue ivy is a legend.”
Blue Ivy won her Grammy for best music video for mom’s “Brown Skin Girl.” And as any mom would be, Beyoncé, couldn’t have been prouder.
“I know my daughter is watching, two daughters and my son, y’all are all watching. Congratulations Blue. She won a Grammy tonight. I’m so proud of you, and I’m so honored to be your mommy, all of your mommys.”
