Vanessa Bryant is continuing her late husband’s legacy as she is promoting his new children’s book in the “Epoca” series, “Epoca: The River of Sand.”
Recently on Instagram, the mother of four sat down with the co-author of the book, Ivy Claire, to discuss the book, the creative process of working with the late NBA basketball star, and “how the novel enables young adults and athletes to maximize their full potential through diverse creative storytelling.”
According to Granity Studios, a company formed by Bryant himself, which is focused on creating new ways to tell stories around sports, “Epoca: The River of Sand,” is a magical novel about self-discovery that encourages youth to find their larger purpose by following their dreams,” a post read on the company’s official Instagram page. The post continued, “In everything Kobe built, he was driven to teach the next generation how to reach their full potential. He believed in the beauty of the process, the positive force that comes from inner magic, and the magnificence in achieving the impossible.”
When Kobe and Claire originally began working on the project, Kobe told her that he wanted to base one of the important characters on his daughter. Claire revealed that, “That was very important to Kobe.”
The first book in the series, “Epoca: The Tree of Ecrof,” tells the story of two kids from different walks of life who use sports and magic to overcome evil forces. “Epoca: The Tree of Ecrof,” became a New York Times bestseller last year.
In November 2019, Kobe commented on the importance of “Epoca: The Tree of Ecrof.”
“EPOCA: The Tree of Ecrof holds a special place of importance for me because it was the first @Granity story I started crafting while still playing in the NBA. #EPOCA is the inspiring tale of two talented and diverse young track and field athletes who must ‘race’ to find their inner magic and #grana in order to save their sports academy from evil forces.
