Tiana is getting her own television series. Disney announced its plans to debut Tiana along with other new shows on the Disney+ platform.
According to Deadline,
“Big Hero sidekick, health care robot Baymax, is getting his own series. Set in San Fransokyo, it gives Baymax new powers as he zips around to help people.
Two popular Disney princesses will headline long-form musical series, Princess and the Frog‘s Tiana and Moana’s title heroine.”
Some may remember Tiana in Disney’s Princess and The Frog (2009). The cartoon character made headlines as the first African-American princess to star in a major Disney film. Some criticized Disney for turning Tiana into a frog near the beginning of the film and not turning her back into a human being until the story was nearly finished. Now, those with such scrutiny have expressed excitement about the upcoming Tiana series.
“For a full decade, I’ve been imagining how The Princess and The Frog continues,” one Twitter fan said. “I’m ecstatic about the Tiana series, and I hope we at least get a GLIMPSE of Maldonia. This concept of art is how I envision the fictional kingdom through my eyes.”
Another social media follower said, “I’m so, so, so happy that we are getting #Tiana and #Moana series to Disney+. They deserved their stories to be continued and now it’s finally happening!”
