What happens when we die? Is there existence before life on Earth begins? Pixar’s SOUL seeks to answer these questions and more.
Joe (Jamie Foxx) is an inner-city music teacher who has lost his drive. Make no mistake. Joe loves the art of music. The teacher, however, just cannot seem to catch a break. If it is not school duties standing in the way of Joe scoring gigs outside of his day job, it is other responsibilities impeding his ability to follow through with side jobs in the industry.
Joe’s life is anything but what he envisioned. There is something about falling into a pothole and missing the afterlife that places things into perspective.
Joe falls into a waiting area for infant souls that have yet to receive a body so they can do life. It is in this limbo state that the music teacher meets an exuberant infant soul that can only imagine what life on Earth is like. Joe discovers a few things about himself along the journey and ultimately comes to appreciate his soul from the inside out.
Jamie Foxx recently commented on his youngest daughter’s excitement over the then-upcoming release of SOUL. “My youngest daughter, I took her to Pixar, and she’s like, ‘Why are we going here,'” Jamie told the press. “I’m like, ‘I’m gonna be in the Pixar movie.’ She’s like, ‘Dad, you finally made it!'”
SOUL – starring Jamie Foxx, June Squibb, Angela Bassett, Daveed Diggs, and more – comes to Disney+ on Christmas Day (December 25). Stay tuned for more Pixar movie news!
