Besides successful career as an actress, Sandra Bullock has also been blessed with her two children, 10-year-old son Louis and 8-year-old daughter Laila Bullock, who she adopted in 2010 and 2015 respectively. Just who are Bullock’s kids? Well here are five things to know about Sandra Bullock and her children.
1. Sandra Bullock named son after Jazz icon Louis Armstrong
On his adorable name, Sandra revealed: “It was one of the first names that came to mind. Louis Armstrong’s song “What a Wonderful World” kept playing in my head when I looked at him, so Louis just seemed to stick. Many other names were tried. I can’t tell you how many baby books and websites there are, but every time we came back to Louis. He seemed happy with the decision.”
2. Sandra Bullock’s son convinced her to adopt daughter Laila
In an interview with Honda Kotb on the TODAY show in 2018, Sandra revealed how Louis led to her adopting Laila. “I was having dinner with some girlfriends of mine. And Louis was — like, wanted to sit with them and came out of his bath,” recalled Bullock. “He was, like, three, had his little belly in his towel and put his hands behind his neck. And she was talking about her daughters. He goes, ‘Yeah, I don’t have daughters.’ And she went, ‘You don’t?’ He goes, ‘No, I don’t have a daughter, but I’m gonna have a baby soon.’
“And they looked at me and I was like, ‘I swear I’m not — nothing out there.’ And I realized at that time maybe he knew something,” continued Bullock And when I think about it, it would’ve been around the time that Laila was born. You know, it’s Louis’ way. Louis has a very strong way, and he’s a fine leader, and he led me to Laila.”
3. Sandra Bullock doesn’t like the term ‘adopted’
InStyle spoke to Bullock in 2018, and on the subject of adopting children, Bullock revealed that she doesn’t like calling her children ‘adopted.’ “Let’s all just refer to these kids as “our kids.” Don’t say “my adopted child.” No one calls their kid their “IVF child” or their “oh, s–t, I went to a bar and got knocked-up child.” Let just say, “our children.”
4. Sandra Bullock doesn’t plan on having any more kids
When asked about expanding her family, Sandra said: “No, I think this is it. But everyone keeps saying, ‘Never say never,’ so I’ll say, ‘No, I think our family is complete,’ and I’ll be open to whatever comes our way.” Of their future together, Bullock says: “That they grow up happy and healthy and know how much I love them. I don’t want to miss a moment of my time with them and if I keep worrying about things that haven’t happened yet, then I’ve lost precious time with them. “But I want them to be educated to the reality that exists – not a conversation that a parent wants to have with their children, but millions of parents are having this conversation daily.”
5. Sandra Bullock likes to keep her kids out of the public eye
Bullock is known for leading a private life, even among Hollywood stars. In fact, she doesn’t even have any form of social media. Naturally, Bullock makes sure to keep her children out of the limelight. However, Bullock and Laila made a rare public appearance recently on fellow actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s show Red Table Talk to thank a nurse named April Buencamino, who works in a California hospital, for her tireless efforts to fight COVID-19. “Thank you, April, for doing everything for everyone,” said Laila. “Stay safe, and your family”.
