Devin McCourty of the New England Patriots and his wife, Dr. Michelle, are mourning the tragic loss of their stillborn daughter Mia McCourty.
Devin and Dr. Michelle already have two children together, 3-year-old Brayden and 2-year-old Londyn McCourty, and on May 30, the couple took to Instagram to share the terrible news, revealing that on May 24, their third child Mia had tragically died at 8 months pregnant. In an emotional Instagram post, Dr. Michelle explained how their tragedy unfolded and asked people to send prayers their way, captioning the post: “Please pray for our family. 💔🕊🙏🏽 @mccourtytwins.”
“I cry as I type this. Dev and I suffered the most painful experience of our lives. My pregnancy had resulted in a still birth at almost 8 months of being pregnant — at exactly 31 weeks 2 days when we found out that the baby girl growing inside me no longer had a heart beat after being completely fine the week before at my last doctor’s appt [appointment],” said Dr. Michelle.
“We are so heartbroken. We are devastated. We are speechless. We are angry. We are sad. We are confused. We are numb. To make matters worse, after an emotional full 21-hour labor, I had to push out and deliver our beautiful baby girl who came out with the umbilical cord around her neck. We held our baby, wrapped in a blanket, cute as ever, looking just like our son Brayden when he was born, But she had no breaths. No cries. No movement. Doctors say they have no answers for why this happens. It just sadly does,” wrote Dr. Michelle.
Dr. Michelle also asked for her family’s privacy to be respected and for their fans to pray for them as they grieve their dearly departed daughter. “While trying to cope with our families loss, we appreciate the love and support we’ve already gotten, and just ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time, since we have no answers to give anyway. The mere thought of what happened causes instant burst of tears at any time of day, and having to speak about it hurts tenfold.”
“We do ask that you push your prayers our way especially towards our future as that will be the hardest challenge moving forward. Pray for healing. Pray for some closure. Pray that our devastation can somehow find some hope for better things to come for our family. That our families growth doesn’t end here,” said Dr. Michelle.
Devin McCourty also expressed his grief and pain on Instagram as he shared Dr. Michelle’s post, praising his wife for her strength and thanking their friends, family and fans for their love and support in the caption. “I’ve seen and felt God in so many ways in this last week,” said McCourty. “1st was holding my 3rd child Mia and telling her I love her and then telling her see you later…all in one day. 2nd has been leading such a strong and powerful woman @dr_yimac32…her strength has brought me to tears but also inspired me to be what God has called me to be. 3rd Gods love on earth has been shown to us by unbelievers friends and family who have checked on us daily, and hourly. Thank you everyone for your love and prayers.”
Dr. Michelle closed her post with a heartbreaking eulogy for her departed daughter Mia, writing: “Pray that our baby Mia will always remain in our hearts and that we can meet her one day up above And know that she watched over us and was loved and missed. God bless.”
