Pop singer Ciara penned a heartfelt message to her 6-year-old son Future Zahir following the tragic death of George Floyd.
Ciara, who is a mother to two children and is pregnant with a third, took to Instagram to share a sweet picture of herself and Future Zahir. In the caption, Ciara wrote: “My sweet Baby Boy. I pray that when you get older A CHANGE will finally have come!! I’m going to keep my FAITH! I’m praying that the losses of our Black Kings and Queens won’t be in vain. Enough is Enough! I’m praying for UNITY! I’m praying for the powers that be to unite and decide that it’s time for a change! ”
Ciara’s husband, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, echoed her sentiments in the comments. “❤️🙏🏾 Young King. We need a change now. Enough is Enough,” said Wilson.
Ciara also took to Twitter to mourn the “senseless” death of George Floyd, noting its similarities to the 2014 death of Eric Garner, a Black man who was also murdered by police officers. She wrote: “My heart can’t take it, seeing what’s happened to #GeorgeFloyd. This is eerily similar to the death of #EricGarner. There has to be a stopping point in the process of arresting someone. It’s all senseless.”

Ciara’s posts come days after George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black Minnesota resident, was brutally murdered at the hands of the Minnesota Police Department on May 25. Four of the officers were fired for their roles in Floyd’s death and the former officer who was filmed pressing his knee onto Floyd’s neck for several minutes has since been arrested and charged with murder and manslaughter.
The video of George Floyd being pinned to the ground while repeatedly stating that he cannot breathe has sparked calls for justice and protests against police brutality and racial injustice across the U.S. and around the world.
