Alicia Keys has learned so much from motherhood. The More Myself author shares part of her journey as a recording artist and mom with Clash magazine.
“Honestly, it doesn’t matter how much success you’ve had or how much money you have, whatever you have is kind of fleeting,” Keys says. “It’s about what spirit you have.”
Alicia Keys and her husband, Swizz Beatz, have two sons, Egypt and Genesis, together. The celebrity mom has always strived to be the best parent and to co-parent in harmony with the mothers of her husband’s other children. It was not until recent years, however, that Alicia began to fully recognize and appreciate her power as a woman.
“Every time I’ve written a song that represents female empowerment, I never knew I was writing it,” Keys tells Clash. “But I love that I’m the person that wrote ‘Girl On Fire,’ ‘Superwoman,’ ‘Woman’s Worth,'” she adds. “It’s always been because I’ve needed a push,” Alicia continues. “I’ve needed to remember that I’m special, to recall that I have that strength.”
Feminine energy is what the world needs right now, according to Alicia. “At this time in the world, we’re really seeing how important the feminine energy is,” Keys tells Clash. “It’s so important for balance, it’s so important for everything. And it’s definitely happening — that’s why we have to go through all this bulls—t. It’s time for drastic change, drastic.”
Perhaps, understanding the essence of our higher selves will put the world on track to change in significant ways. Alicia Keys has certainly experienced positive shifts after choosing the high road. The recording artist’s autobiography, More Myself, delves into her transformation.
“I’ve always wanted people to really know me, I just wasn’t ready to share it,” Alicia Keys reveals. “But now I am,” she declares. “In so many ways the book brings us through the journey so far and explores these themes and places that we’re all going through [as women] and how to really become our authentic selves.”
