The hit song “Toosie Slide” by Drake has inspired the “Toosie Slide challenge” across social media, and the winners are Masaka Kids Africana, an organization that enjoyed a major boost in donations and viewers after the rapper himself helped their take on the “Toosie Slide challenge” go viral.

Masaka Kids Africana is an organization that takes care of orphaned children in Uganda, Africa. On their Instagram account, the Masaka Kids, who are talented dancers, regularly post videos of themselves dancing. On April 17, the Masaka Kids posted their “Toosie Slide” dance video.

Sunna Hassan, the founder of Masaka Kids Africana, said in an interview with TMZ that the children wanted to take on the “Toosie Slide challenge” because they loved the song and though it was a “long shot”, they hoped to get Drake’s attention. In fact, the caption reads: “#toosieslide @masakakidsafricana💃🇺🇬 Please tag @champagnepapi. Have a nice weekend to you all ❤️Please tag friends 🙏❤️.”

The Masaka Kids’ efforts would soon pay off in more ways than one. As their video spread across social media like Twitter, TikTok and Instagram, Drake eventually took notice. After seeing the Masaka Kids’ video, Drake was so impressed by their moves that he messaged them directly to ask them to send him the video. Drake then shared the Masaka Kids’ rendition of the “Toosie Slide” on his Instagram Story. Since then, the Masaka Kids’ video has gone viral, their Instagram account reportedly gained over 120,000 followers, and the organization received hundreds of dollars in donations, with plenty of inquiries on how to donate clothing and other essential items.

Hassan says that he and the children featured in the video cried “tears of joy” at Drake’s kind gesture and celebrated by dancing, of course. Today, the Masaka Kids continue their mission of spreading joy and happiness through dance.
