"This Is All I Wanted For My Bday"

Erykah Badu got an early birthday present when her teen daughter, Puma, performed alongside her mom during an appearance on Good Morning Texas.

Erykah and her daughter performed ‘All The Joy’ by Moonchild during their appearance on the morning show. Badu supported her daughter while Puma sang the lyrics to the song. “This [is] all I wanted for my bday,” Erykah told her Instagram fans. “I love her,” the celebrity mom shared. More than 500,000 social media fans loved what they saw.

“Beautiful,” Jill Scott wrote online after seeing a snippet of Erykah Badu and Puma’s performance. “This is a real dream come true,” another fan said.

Puma did not stop at her Good Morning Texas performance. The teen went on to perform ‘All The Joy’ by Moonchild by herself at The Bomb Factory for her mom’s annual birthday show. “She’s about to be the next iconic voice and that’s on soul,” one YouTube subscriber said after seeing video footage of Puma singing on the mainstage. The social media fan even claimed that Puma “outdid the original.” She is pretty amazing, isn’t she?

Fans should not be surprised to see Puma budding into an artist. Her mom is, after all, considered by many as the Godmother of Soul. Erykah Badu discussed the connection that she has with the youth during a 2018 interview with Vulture.

“If it’s anything, it’s that I understand where young people are coming from,” the recording artist said. “I don’t try and fight it,” Badu explained. “What’s interesting to me about music and the younger generation is that what we hear on the radio is more about frequency and sound than words.”

“People talk about ‘mumble rapA style from the warrens of SoundCloud featuring young rappers with somewhat unintelligible verses, hooks repeated into infinity, blown-out beats, and a willingness to try anything — stylistically and pharmaceutically. Influenced by trap and emo, well-known practitioners include Lil Yachty, Lil Pump, and the late Lil Peep,’ … but that’s because they don’t understand that the important thing is the vibration, not the words. The kids need vibrations because their attention span is about three seconds.”

Puma is certainly sending out positive vibes with her vocal abilities. Stay tuned for more Erykah Badu family news!
