Angela Simmons was brought to tears while filming for the latest episode of Growing Up Hip Hop (GUHH). The celebrity mom shared her reaction to her son, Sutton Tennyson Jr., asking about his late father, Sutton Tennyson Sr., during a talk with her life coach, Chenoa Maxwell.

Angela was telling Chenoa about a recent interaction with her son in which she was showing little Sutton pictures of his father. “I’m like, ‘Do you want to see your dad?’ And he was like, ‘Yes!’ So he comes over and I start showing him videos and pictures and stuff.” It was then that Sutton asked his mom a heart-wrenching question.

“He was like, ‘Is he alive?’,” Angela said. “He doesn’t even say the word, ‘alive.’ So for him to ask that is like, ‘Whoa! Did you really just say, ‘Is he alive?” And I was just like, ‘No, he’s not.'”

Sutton Tennyson, Sr., was murdered in Atlanta, Georgia, in November 2018. Angela promised to hold their son “down in every way” after hearing of her ex-fiance’s untimely passing. The Growing Up Hip Hop star has fulfilled her vow with the help of family members and friends who serve as little Sutton’s village. Still, the reality of explaining the death of a parent to a toddler is a lot for anyone to handle.

“This is the first time I’m having to explain it to him, which is super sad because, it’s like, he’s three,” Angela told Chenoa. “How do you explain to a three-year-old that they’re never going to see them again,” the GUHH star asked.

Angela Simmons told her life coach that her son leaned his head on her chest and expressed sadness about his father’s death. It was then that the GUHH star burst into tears.
