Serena Williams hated her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and the smell he exuded during the early days of her pregnancy. The tennis champion got real about how expectancy heightened her senses during a recent interview.
“I was like ‘I can’t stand you and I don’t know why,'” Serena revealed. “Obviously, at the time, I didn’t know why either,” she added. “It was like, ‘There’s something about your smell. I don’t like your smell.’ I was six weeks pregnant and had no idea.”
It is not uncommon for women to experience irrational thoughts during pregnancy. Hormones are, after all, elevated during this time. “Looking back it’s so surreal and crazy and now that I’m here,” Serena said of her pregnancy experience. “I have all these funny memories of being miserable,” the celebrity mom said.
Serena Williams and her husband welcomed their daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in September 2017. The little one was born several months after Serena won the Australian Open while pregnant. Serena recently won the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. The title was the tennis star’s first since welcoming her daughter nearly three years ago.
“I always knew I would have to come back for sure,” Williams said of her determination to return to the tennis court and win a few more championships before retiring. “I’m really happy to be back,” she added.
“I feel like the last time so many things were happening in my life that it was just crazy looking back and I didn’t even know and realize what was happening. Now I’m here with my daughter and it’s such a special moment, this is kind of like where it all began.”
