"I've Been Chosen To Lead My Family, Not Y'all"

Dwyane Wade is coming to his son Zion Wade’s defense after the tween received a firestorm of criticism for wearing a crop top and fake nails while posing for a family picture. Gabrielle Union posted the picture to her Instagram timeline last Thursday (November 28) in honor of Thanksgiving.

“Grateful,” the celebrity mom shared with her social media fans. “Happy Thanksgiving good people,” Gabrielle said. “To all the friends and family that have my back and all the friends and family I’ve never met who show love and support when everyone is looking and when no one is looking … All praise, gratitude, and thankfulness,” Union shared.

Many praised Gabrielle and her family for their ability to live out loud. Some critics, however, could not get beyond Zion’s attire to see the essence of the social media post. Dwyane Wade got wind of the hate and responded via Twitter.

“I’ve seen some post-Thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo,” the former NBA player wrote online. “Stupidity is a part of this world we live in—so I get it,” Dwyane shared. “But here’s the thing – I’ve been chosen to lead my family, not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love, and a smile!”

The Wades have been the subject of criticism ever since Zion Wade attended Miami PRIDE with his family earlier this year. Many have encouraged the 12-year-old to live out his truth. Some, however, remain with traditions that call for strong scrutiny of the LGBTQ+ community.

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union parent four children together. Stay tuned for more celebrity family news!
