Tia Mowry knows all too well about the intensity of post-partum depression. The Family Reunion star covers the latest issue of Romper magazine with her kids, Cairo and Cree, and tells the publication about her experience with depression that followed her daughter’s birth.
“When I knew that I had postpartum [depression] … I didn’t want to admit it,” Tia shares. “It was that shame,” she admits.
The celebrity mom told her doctor that she was “fine.” Tia, however, did not hide the truth from her sister, Tamera Mowry, and husband, Cory Hardrict. “I told my sister about it,” Tia says. “I told my husband about it, and I told my friends about it. They became my support system. So when I was sad or going through my emotions, I would talk about it. I didn’t suppress them. I think that helped.”
Something else that contributed to Tia’s journey back to wellness was work. “Just being on set and it not being about your boobs and a baby, it was about you again,” the celebrity mom says. Mowry notes that it took her around six months after giving birth to Cairo to feel like herself again.
The celebrity’s mental “snap back” came in a matter of months. Some of the physical changes that Tia has experienced after giving birth to baby number two, however, remain. “I literally have to pick up my boobs to see my waist,” Tia shares with Romper. “[I] Literally haul them up and [am] like, ‘Oh, there it is.'”
Weight loss at any cost is not Tia’s number one priority these days. The celebrity mom is taking things slow and enjoying the skin she’s in.
“I’m just now getting back to taking care of myself,” Tia says. “This just started two weeks ago.”
