Nipsey Hussle’s family has been granted guardianship of the late rapper’s daughter, Emani Asghedom. Lauren London will retain custody and guardianship of her and Nipsey’s son, Kross Asghedom.
According to TMZ,
“A judge just signed off on Nipsey’s immediate family members becoming legal guardians to Nipsey’s 10-year-old daughter, Emani … this as opposed to her birth mother, Tanisha, who the family had called unfit.
The court said Nipsey’s family provided sufficient evidence for their petition and as such … Nip’s siblings — Samantha Smith and Sam Asghedom — and his mother, Angelique Smith — have been appointed as Emani’s guardians.”
Tanisha Foster and Nipsey Hussle’s sister, Samantha Smith, have been in a battle for guardianship of Emani since April. The late rapper’s sister reportedly feared that Tanisha would sever the relationships that Emani established with the Asghedom family and, thus, thought it best to have guardianship over Emani. There has also been the issue of money, where the Asghedoms believe that Tanisha would use her daughter’s inheritance to fund a lavish lifestyle for herself.
“[Samantha Smith] has always been a presence in Emani’s life and along with the rest of Emani’s paternal family has assisted in her care and continues to do so,” documents for guardianship filed by Samantha and the Asghedom family read.
Tanisha fought the proposed arrangements by revealing that both she and Emani were taking grief counseling sessions to move forward after Nipsey Hussle’s untimely death. The courts, however, apparently agreed with the Asghedoms that Emani would be better suited in the care of Samantha.
Nipsey Hussle passed away on March 31, 2019, after being shot outside of his clothing store, Marathon Clothing. He was the father of two children. Stay tuned for more celebrity family news!
