Kobe Bryant’s latest children’s book, Legacy and the Queen, is all about a girl who plays tennis to save her family. The drive of the main character reminds some readers of Kobe’s drive when he played for the NBA. Others may think of Serena Williams when they read Legacy and the Queen. While Williams served as inspiration for the storyline, Kobe Bryant was motivated to write children’s fiction by his kids.
“At the beginning of my last season that’s when I started writing,” Kobe said during a recent interview. “That’s when I started really executing what was going to come next. Having four daughters at home it was like, ‘I need to create content for my children.'”
Kobe’s first children’s book was called Training Camp (The Wizenard Series #1). The book carries a sports theme as well, which encourages hard work and consistency. Bryant’s first book, The Mamba Mentality: How I Play, last year.
Storytelling is not the only thing that Kobe has done in these past few months. The retired NBA star also expanded his family with his wife, Vanessa Bryant. The celebrity couple welcomed their fourth child, Capri Kobe Bryant, in July. Kobe recently told Jimmy Kimmel that Vanessa decided to give their youngest daughter his first name.
“It wasn’t my idea,” Kobe told the late-night talk show host. “Vanessa came to me and was like,’You know, I’m thinking of naming her Kobe, her middle name.’ And I was like, ‘Uh … okay, okay.'”
Vanessa thought that her husband wasn’t keen on the notion of giving their youngest daughter his first name. So she presented the idea of changing things. “I was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,'” Kobe told Kimmel. “She said, ‘I didn’t think you were too hot about it.’ And I was like, ‘Well you can’t change it now. You can’t give me a gift and then take it back.'”
Kobe Bryant won an Oscar award for his animated short film, “Dear Basketball.” You can get your copy of Legacy and the Queen today at bookstores nationwide. Stay tuned for more celebrity father news!
