What better way to get the school year off to a good start than with an inspirational message? Erykah Badu and Common did just that at Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas, Texas.
Erykah and Common gave the kids an amazing show. The performance was especially sentimental for Badu as she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas in 1989. Erykah’s daughter, Puma, presently attends the school.
“I’m on a journey,” Common said when addressing the kids at the outdoor concert. “I’ve been an artist for over 30 years now. Some people now are still discovering Common as an artist,” the celebrity shared.
“I mention that because I want you to know that on the journey you’re on, you will always be gaining ground if you choose to,” Common explained. “But the journey begins with the love that you have for the art form; the love that you have for whatever profession you choose; the love that you have for yourself, really.”
“The journey begins with purpose. And purpose is something that you will discover as you continue to go on and pursue your education when it comes to arts. You will discover a purpose for whatever you choose.”
Puma is Erykah Badu’s daughter with The D.O.C. The teen celebrated her fifteenth birthday in July. Stay tuned for more celebrity parent news!
