Mario Lopez came under fire for his comments regarding transgender individuals with specific reference to Charlize Theron’s son, Jackson. The veteran entertainer has since apologized for comments he made on the subject during his most recent interview with Candace Owens.
Mario responded to Candace’s question about Jackson by saying that Charlize’s reasoning was quite alarming. “My God if you’re three-years-old, I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make this determination then,” Lopez said. “It’s sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on.”
Mario Lopez is certainly not the first person to criticize Charlize Theron for letting her son dress like a girl. The celebrity mom came under stark scrutiny in the court of public opinion a few weeks back after she openly declared that she had two daughters. Jackson, according to Theron, was a girl like Charlize’s younger daughter, August.

“I thought she was a boy, too,” Charlize said of Jackson during an interview. “Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: ‘I am not a boy!'” Such a statement led to an onslaught of accusations including allegations of child abuse.
Still, even with harsh criticism coming from the general public, few in Hollywood have said anything about Charlize Theron’s parenting techniques. Such is one of the reasons why Mario’s comments sparked a backlash among the masses.

“The comments I made were ignorant and insensitive, and I now have a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were,” Mario said in a statement to PEOPLE. “I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself. Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful.”
