Boyz N The Hood director John Singleton has passed away leaving behind seven kids, two of whom are under the age of ten. The celebrity father’s family decided to take Singleton off life support on Monday (April 29) and released a statement to fans.
“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father, and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” the statement, given exclusively to Deadline, read. “This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors,” the family continued.
John Singleton suffered a major stroke approximately two weeks ago that led to him being taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Cedars Sinai medical center in Beverly Hills. The director never came out of his coma.
“John loved nothing more than giving opportunities to new talent and his films came to be known for career-making roles with actors who the industry would come to embrace,” the statement read. “Talents such as Tupac Shakur, Regina King, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Ice Cube, Tyrese and Taraji P. Henson.”
John Singleton’s family revealed that the director suffered from hypertension for a significant portion of his life. The late director’s loved ones strongly admonished the public to go to Heart.org to learn the symptoms of stroke and heart disease.
John Singleton is survived by his mother, Sheila Ward, his father, Danny Singleton, and his children whose names are: Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis, and Seven.
