The Marathon continues! The intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard was renamed Nipsey Hussle Square by the L.A. City Council on Monday (April 15). Nipsey’s daughter, Emani, was all smiles at the ceremony held at L.A. City Hall Council Chambers.

Hussle’s father held the certificate that made the renaming official high at the ceremony. Los Angeles City Council members moved to rename the intersection of Slauson and Crenshaw, where he was murdered, after Nipsey during the late rapper’s private funeral on Friday (April 12).
Thousands came out to pay their final respects to Nipsey Hussle on Thursday (April 11). The late rapper was publicly honored with a 25-mile victory lap that encompassed parts of Downtown, South Los Angeles, and Inglewood. Former President Barack Obama was one of many to write a letter praising Nipsey for his efforts to revitalize South Los Angeles.

Childish Gambino also honored the late rapper. “I lost my dad this year, we lost Nipsey, we lost Mac [Miller],” Gambino said during his performance at Coachella this past weekend. “What I’m starting to realize, all we really have is memories at the end of the day, that’s all we are,” he added.
“All we are really is data,” Gambino further explained. “You pass onto your kids, you can pass it on to your friends, your family. The problem with us, millennials like everybody here, we have so much data, like, we know what’s gonna happen. We’re too afraid to plant a tree that we know we’re not going to eat from. There’s a hundred thousand of you out here right now There’s a good chance that some of y’all — at least one of y’all — won’t see next week. So what I’m saying is while you’re here, while we’re here, feel something and pass it on.”
Nipsey Hussle passed on a lot, which is why his legacy continues despite those who would seek to taint it. Emani, Hussle’s daughter, certainly appeared to be filled with happiness as she held up an image of her father.
