Russell Wilson is admired by many for his role as an athlete and family man. The NFL player tells AM to DM how being a stepfather to Ciara’s son, Future Zahir, teaches him the essence of true love.
“I think the best thing is love,” Russell says of having a blended family that works. “Being a stepdad, you really find out what love is like,” the celebrity father adds. “It’s interesting because it’s easy to love someone who is [related by] blood and everything else. But when you can love someone like it’s your own child, that’s what real love is like.”
One of the many precious moments that Russell Wilson enjoys with his stepson is trips to the school and watching Future Zahir during Little League practice. “Watching little man walk for the first time was amazing,” Wilson shares. “And also, taking him to Little League practice, you know, baseball. [Watching him be] the first to bat [and it’s a] home run.”
Russell Wilson goes beyond his family unit to empower youth at large through his foundation, The Why Not You Foundation. According to the charity website,
“The Why Not You Foundation’s mission is to empower change in the world, one individual at a time, and one child at a time.”

Russell further explains the inspiration behind his foundation’s name. “It was a fundamental question I had to ask myself my whole life,” Wilson says. “And I think we all ask ourselves subconsciously, or consciously, ‘[Why Not You?]’ … We’ve been able to do some amazing things.”
