Storm Reid has teamed up with David Oyelowo to star in the Sundance Film Festival flick, Relive. The movie, written by Jacob Estes, centers around an uncle (Oyelowo) and his niece (Reid).
In the film, Uncle Jack is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) who deals with the tragic loss of his niece, Ashley, and her family. The story takes a unique turn when Jack receives a phone call from his deceased niece. It takes the detective a few minutes to realize that he is two weeks in the future while his niece is calling him from the past, which doubles as the present Jack has ten days to figure out how to save Ashley’s life. What will he do?
The time split in Relive is similar to that of Sliding Doors. David Oyelowo partnered with Jacob Estes to produce the film because of the family element that the flick brings to the big screen.
“As a father, as someone who is very invested in what it is to love and family, it just spoke to me,” Oyelowo shares. “To be able to look at what it is to face loss and the desire to pull someone back who you are about to lose; that theme is what really drew me to it.”
Storm Reid also discusses the film and what she did to prepare for her role as Ashley. “I would say with any role I approach, I [understand that] there are circumstances that every character has. With Ashley, I haven’t been in the same situations that she has, so I really have to step outside of myself and step in her shoes,” she explains. “It was really just relating to her,” Reid says.
