"Be Whoever You Want To Be"

Lonnie Chavis is one of many stars on the hit NBC series This Is Us. The young star tells L.A. Parent about his new gig and what it’s like to work in Hollywood.

“It’s going really, really good, and we have really good writers,” Chavis tells the media source. “There have been a lot of lessons that I’ve been able to learn, that I’ve been able to translate and take away into my own life,” the young star says of the series.

One lesson that Lonnie Chavis exhibits well is how to combat bullies. Several trolls recently took to social media to poke fun at the young star because of the gap between his teeth. Lonnie responded in a manner that was both graceful and admonishing of such behavior.

“I could get my gap fixed,” Chavis told his critics. “Braces can fix this, but can you fix your heart, though,” the young actor asked. Lonnie’s question regarding issues of the heart started the hashtag, #FixYourHeart, which encourages people to think before they speak.

“I just thought to myself, like, wow,” Lonnie tells L.A. Parent of his interaction with trolls online. “This is crazy,” he adds of the experience. “I made a video to let people know to stay woke and don’t let them hate on you, troll you, and bully you. Be whoever you want to be.”

Lonnie Chavis carries the ultimate mission of uniting people. Catch him on the new season of This Is Us!
