Serena Williams had the best comforter after her U.S. Open loss. The celebrity mom tells Mamamia exclusively how her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, comforted mom after a tournament that was nothing short of dramatic.
“Besides cry, I don’t know, it was interesting,” Serena reveals of her feelings after walking off the stage as runner-up in the U.S. Open. “I got in the car, and Olympia was in the car. It was so weird, and [Alexis Olympia] started giving me kisses, she never gives me kisses. She doesn’t even know to give kisses, and she just grabbed me, and I was like this little baby is so smart,” Williams says of her daughter’s reaction to her mom’s vibes.
“It’s just hard to be too down when you have a little one,” the tennis star continues. “Like I have to take care of this person, and I have to do this type of stuff, it puts everything in perspective,” she continues.
Perspective was definitely needed after Serena Williams’ loss at the U.S. Open a few weeks ago. It wasn’t so much of the tennis star’s loss against rising sensation Naomi Osaki that served as a blow to Serena. In fact, the moment between the two athletes was quite beautiful. Naomi’s win, however, was marred by controversy as Serena had a cringe-worthy interaction with umpire Carlos Ramos that was memorable for all of the wrong reasons.
“I’m doing the best that I can to try and move forward,” Serena tells Mamamia. “Most of all, spending time with Olympia, she’s here in the background… you realize the most important things that really matter.”
