AMANDLA STENBERG SAYS THAT NEW MOVIE, “THE DARKEST MINDS,” SALUTES THE POWER OF GENERATION Z

It is no secret that Generation Z is truly a very verbal and passionate generation. Championing everything from gun safety to anti-bullying efforts, Gen Z speaks their minds and makes sure that everyone hears their opinions.

In the upcoming movie, The Darkest Minds, starring Amandla Stenberg, based on the 2012 YA novel by Alexandra Bracken, adults shun anyone under 18 because they’ve developed mutational powers. Stenberg told Yahoo Entertainment in an interview that that is exactly what attracted her to the role.

“The allegory really appealed to me,” the 19-year-old said. “And also just finding levity within the allegory. Just because I feel like we have to do that, in order to push forward and survive emotionally in our everyday lives now. So I think it’s really powerful how the characters who are kids rely on each other to bring each other that joy and encourage each other to stand on their strength and wield their powers. I think it’s really exciting to see kids band together and stand up against something that they don’t believe in.”

The Darkest Minds hits theaters August 3rd. This truly looks like one of the must-see’s before heading back-to-school. Check out the trailer below.
